Derrek Lee is a Deputy Legislative Counsel. He joined the office in 2023.
Mr. Lee is assigned to a branch of the office that handles laws relating to courts, criminal law, estates and trusts, family law, gaming, health and care facilities, health care service plans, health insurance, insurance, juveniles, Medi-Cal, military and veterans, prevailing wage, public health, public social services, vehicles, and workers’ compensation.
Prior to joining the office, Mr. Lee worked as a senior appellate attorney at the California Third District Court of Appeal, and as a Deputy Attorney General in the Correctional Law Section of the California Attorney General’s Office. Previously, he served as a law clerk in the Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Lee currently serves as an adjunct professor, where he teaches legal writing and research.
Mr. Lee received his J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Davis.
Mr. Lee is a member of the California State Bar.
