William Moddelmog, who joined the office in 2002, is a supervisor of the Opinion Branch. This branch develops and presents, either in written or oral form, the formal legal opinions of the Office of Legislative Counsel.

Prior to joining the office, Mr. Moddelmog worked in private practice. Mr. Moddelmog was also a judicial extern in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California for Judge A. Wallace Tashima.

He taught composition, American literature, and law and literature for four years at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Ohio State University, Newark. He also published a book on law and literature titled Reconstituting Authority: American Fiction in the Province of the Law, 1880-1920 (University of Iowa Press, 2000).

Mr. Moddelmog received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law and his undergraduate degree from California State University, Los Angeles. Mr. Moddelmog also has a doctoral degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Mr. Moddelmog is a member of the California State Bar.
