Matt Tucker is a deputy legislative counsel.  He joined the office in 2019.

Mr. Tucker is assigned to a branch of the office that handles laws relating to courts, criminal law, estates and trusts, family law, gaming, health and care facilities, health care service plans, health insurance, insurance, juveniles, Medi-Cal, military and veterans, prevailing wage, public health, public social services, vehicles, and workers’ compensation.

Prior to joining the office, Mr. Tucker served in the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Tucker began his career as a surface warfare officer, serving at sea aboard USS Antietam and USS Zephyr.  He was then selected for the Navy’s law education program and attended law school before becoming a judge advocate.  As a JAG, Mr. Tucker served in various positions in San Diego, California, Lemoore, California, Washington, D.C., Afghanistan, and Bahrain.  Mr. Tucker’s primary focus was on administrative law and government ethics, but he also served as a criminal defense counsel and operational law attorney.

Mr. Tucker received his J.D. from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California where he graduated magna cum laude and was Editor-in-Chief of the California Western International Law Journal.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University.

Mr. Tucker is a member of the California State Bar.
