Brent Westcott is a deputy legislative counsel.  He joined the office in 2018.

Mr. Westcott is assigned to the Legislative Services Branch.  This branch is responsible for advising the Members and legislative staff on legislative procedure, appropriations and the state budget, the Political Reform Act of 1974, election law, litigation, personnel issues, and other legislative matters, and for drafting contracts and leases.

Prior to joining the office, Mr. Westcott worked as an associate in the Los Angeles office of Crowell & Morning LLP, where he practiced antitrust and competition law.  He also maintained an active pro bono practice, handling civil rights and immigration matters.

Mr. Westcott received his J.D. from the Universtiy of California Los Angeles, School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Honors Program and the Moot Court Executive Board.  During law school, he completed internships with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and County Counsel for the County of Orange.  Mr. Westcott earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, graduating with honors.

Mr. Westcott is member of the California State Bar.
