Judy Anne Alanis is a deputy legislative counsel.  She joined the office in 1997 and returned in 2018.

Ms. Alanis is assigned to a branch of the office that handles laws relating to courts, criminal law, estates and trusts, family law, gaming, health and care facilities, health care service plans, health insurance, insurance, juveniles, Medi-Cal, military and veterans, prevailing wage, public health, public social services, vehicles, and workers’ compensation.

Ms. Alanis represented the office and lectured in the Country of Georgia in 2018 as part of the Professional Fellows Program administered by the nonprofit American Councils for International Education organization, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State.

Prior to joining the office, Ms. Alanis worked as an associate attorney at Downey Brand, Seymour & Rohwer, where she practiced oil gas law.  Prior to that, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable William B. Shubb of the United States District Court, Eastern District of California.

Ms. Alanis received her J.D. from the University of California, Davis, King Hall School of Law, where she was awarded Order of the Coif and served as an Editor for the U.C. Davis Law Review.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Pepperdine University, where she graduated summa cum laude.

Ms. Alanis is a member of the California State Bar.
