Paul R. Coaxum II is a deputy legislative counsel. He joined the office in 2013.
Mr. Coaxum is assigned to a branch of the office that handles laws relating to air resources, elementary and secondary education, fish and wildlife, food and agriculture, harbors and navigation, hazardous materials, postsecondary education, public resources, public safety, public utilities, solid waste, streets and highways, transportation, and water. His practice is focused primarily on postsecondary education, elementary and secondary education, and state parks.
Prior to joining the office, Mr. Coaxum worked for the United States Senate as a legal assistant for the Committee on Judiciary. He also worked for the Department of Social Services as a Graduate Legal Assistant and also worked as an Assembly Fellow, Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, and he was a Corps member of Teach for America.
Mr. Coaxum received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Political Science and Sociology. He also earned a Masters of Arts in education from the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Mr. Coaxum is a member of the California State Bar.
